When to book your wedding makeup & hair in Melbourne

Just got engaged? Here's what we wish every bride knew from the very beginning.

How far in advance should you book your wedding makeup and hair in Melbourne?

If your wedding falls during peak wedding season (spring, summer, long weekends, popular venues) booking 9–12 months in advance gives you the best chance of securing your date and the team you really want.

That said, we welcome enquiries at any stage of planning and will always do our best to make it work. If your date is sooner, please still reach out, we'd love to hear from you.

But timing is only part of the picture

Here's something we think matters just as much as when you book: who you book, and why.

We see the most beautiful results (and the most relaxed wedding mornings) when a bride has chosen her beauty team because she genuinely loves their work. Not because they were the first available, or because someone else recommended them without looking closely at the style.

Take the time to research properly and look through their work with fresh eyes. Notice what draws you in - the skin, the energy they bring, the way their work feels. Then reach out to the artists whose style naturally resonates with you. When there's that alignment, you spend a lot less time trying to explain what you want, and a lot more time enjoying the experience.

If you give yourself the lead time to do that research well, everything else flows from there.

Wherever you are in your planning right now

Just got engaged:
This is actually the ideal moment to start looking, even if your wedding is 18 months away. You don't need to book tomorrow, but getting familiar with artists whose work you love means when you're ready, you're not starting from scratch under pressure.

6–12 months out:
The sweet spot. Peak season dates and popular Saturdays move fast at this stage, so if you've found someone you love, it's worth reaching out sooner rather than later to check availability.

3–6 months out:
Still very much worth enquiring. We may have availability, and even if a date is gone we can often suggest options.

Less than 3 months out:
Reach out immediately - the sooner we know, the more we can do. It's not ideal but it absolutely happens and we will always try our best.

A note on skin, because it takes longer than most people think

Booking 9–12 months out doesn't just secure your date. It also gives you something that's easy to overlook in the early excitement of planning: enough time to create and stick to a consistent skincare routine, if you want to.

Skin doesn't change overnight. A consistent routine, the right ingredients and a bit of patience can make a visible difference by your wedding day. If a Skin Journey is something you're considering, the earlier you begin, the more your skin can do before the morning arrives.

When to book your trial

We recommend booking your trial 2-4 months before your wedding day, and there's a reason for that window.

By that point, the big decisions are usually locked in. Your dress, jewellery, florals, venue, guest dress code - all of it. That means you arrive at your trial with a clear, complete picture of your day, and we can create a look that genuinely ties everything together rather than working from a half-formed vision.

Your hair and skin are also closer to how they'll look and feel on your wedding day, which means what we create at your trial is a much more accurate preview of the real thing.

We can absolutely accommodate trials earlier than 4 months if that works better for you - just keep in mind that the further out you are, the more likely things are to shift. Your style might evolve, your vision might change, and if it does, you may find yourself wanting to revisit things closer to the date. Doing it within that 2–4 month window protects you from that.
